Dashashwamedh Ghat is the main ghat in Varanasi on the Ganga River and is probably the most spectacular ghat.
The Ganga Aarti at Varanasi is an uplifting spiritual ritual. The Aarti ceremony takes place near the Ganges River. While facing the river, the Hindu priests use lamps which are circled around , accompanied by chants or songs in praise of Mother Ganga. It is believed that after the ritual is complete, the Goddess showers her blessing onto each individual present there.
Varanasi body cremation
On average 100 bodies are burnt on the river banks. For centuries Hindus have visited Varanasi to cremate their dead so that they can achieve ‘moksha’, the release from the cycle of death and rebirth.
