Cars in Peru
This post is the first one about cars and traffic around the world. I will try to post about each country, as a car guy I’m photographing all the cars and the roads in each country.
So let’s start with PERU

Based on data from Asociación Automotriz del Perú (AAP) and Superintendencia Nacional de los Registros Públicos (Sunarp) the following cars are the best sold cars in Peru in 2015:
- Toyota Yaris
- Toyota Hilux
- Kia Rio
- Hyundai Accent
- Kia Picanto
- Hyundai i10
- Kia Sportage
- Hyundi Tucson
- Toyota RAV4
Population of Peru is 31 million people, from this 10 million are living in Lima alone.
Cars sold in PERU: 2014 – 140,363 pcs, 2015 131,728 pcs which is actually not bad.

When I saw this car, I couldn’t believe my eyes. A car from 1990 sold as new car. Nissan Sentra alias V16 .. Nissan PERU
In Lima you can see these cars mostly as taxis.

Roads in Peru

The roads outside the cities are good, Panamericana and the main roads are perfect. Smaller roads are not paved, but still OK to drive. In the mountains are a lot of hairpins obviously. The coastal road is straight and smooth.
Speed bumps are present everywhere, and way too big and large. There is no way not to hit the bottom of the car.

Driving style in PERU
Horrible, but you can get used to easy. Just drive the same way how they do.
The rules are there, but nobody is following them. Police seems like don’t care, they never fine anybody.
Speed limits in PERU
Theoretically, the speed limit is 100kph (62mph) on highways, 80kph (50mph) on other major roads and 30-60kph (19-37mph) in built-up areas. No one in Peru follows this though, everybody is driving as fast as possible.

Very few accidents, which is a miracle in itself…
Parking in Peru
This is the only thing in Peru, which is really easy. Nobody is parking on the roads in the evening, the roads are completely deserted duruing night. Everybody is parking in garages, playas, or parking with huge fences around the cars. See video.
Cars security
Our rental car had a few extra security items 🙂 I never saw something similar before in my life !
